Team Bios

Meet the team and learn about our goals for the project.

CJ

Mechanical (Carousel)

Hello! I am a sophomore and a mechanical engineering major. As a long-time 3D printing enthusiast, I’m particularly interested in expanding my experience in the world of CNC routers and other faster manufacturing techniques. Outside of classes, I spent last summer in the southern rocky mountains teaching climbing at Philmont Scout Ranch, and I really enjoy running.

For this project, my personal goals were to work with multiple types of manufacturing equipment and to build a flexible mechanism. I accomplished my goals by taking on the design for the carousel, which required a large number of laser-cut components. The carousel also needed to integrate into the frame and as a whole it was modular enough to continue functioning as we re-arranged attached components during the final integration phase.

Declan

Electrical, Software, and Integration Lead

My name is Declan Ketchum; I am a Electrical and Computer Engineer.

My goals in this project were to practice leadership skills which I accomplished by being the project manager for this team, improve my software development by learning HTML CSS and Java Script. I did this by created an interactive website that people can interact with to upload their own image to our Ball Matrix Display. I also created a server to host our website where I learned server architecture. My final goal was to practice integrated iterative design. I did this by working with our mechanical engineers to make the ball sorter and carousel work.

Luke

Electrical and Software

Howdy, I’m Luke! I am a sophomore and a robotics engineering major (or mechE, who knows). I really enjoy the intersection of different disciplines, the process of integration, and systems thinking (and math too). Outside of class, I alternate between pulling CJ on a run and being pulled by CJ on a run, and really wish I read more fiction.

For this project, I wanted to take a bit of a break from CAD and focus on my electrical and software skills. To that end, I worked on the system-level electrical design of the system, learned lots about communications and actuation, and wrote plenty of Arduino code. I also enjoyed getting experience using Python and the object-oriented paradigm for a real-world integrated project

Meagan

Desgin Lead

Hello, I am a currently a sophomore, majoring in Design in the hopes of pursuing a career in Industrial Design. If you have a do please tell your dog I said Hi!

My personal goals for this project were to one group my CAD skills which I did through working on designing the frame, learning how to design an integrated systems which I did through teaming. And learn more about UX/UI design through the creation of this website.

Owen

Mechanical (Sorter and Elevator)

I am a sophomore and a mechanical engineering major. I am particularly interested in 3D printing and aerospace. Outside of engineering I enjoy running and baking, and am also president of Olin’s Glass Flaming club.

My goals for this project was to design and build a reliable mechanism to solve something without an obvious solution. I have achieved that goal by practicing iterative design when making the ball sorter and elevator. It took me many revisions, but I ended with a mechanism that was thoughtfully designed and very consistent. In the process I also improved my skills at making CAD that is resilient to changes.
